In Reasonable Facsimile I am investigating the reconstruction and replication of historical periods and/or distant places within the context of American regional tourism. These sites provoke questions of authenticity, as they ostensibly provide experiences of exotic places or bygone eras, even though they are shrouded in artifice. They are an indication of cultural values as well as cultural stereotypes. This body of work is intended to be playful while maintaining an underlying current of skepticism and a provocative investigation of cultural identity.
